The Trapview Predictive Pest Network utilises revolutionary technology to provide an innovative, simplified solution for monitoring insect populations. ADAMA Australia initiated a nationwide network of more than 500 Trapview automated pest traps targeting key insect pests of Australian agriculture.
The network provides a clear understanding of pest pressure within a growing region and supports decision makers to improve timing of insecticide applications, improve efficiency in the field and increase sustainability of their food growing operations.
It operates by capturing images and providing digital recognition of lured pests using Trapview smart traps. Pest populations and their dynamics are then shared across the network of traps allowing for near real time monitoring of pest movements across a large area.
The first of ADAMA’s Predictive Networks, Helicoverpa punctigera, is now live in South Eastern Australia with more pest networks rolling out in the coming months. The network enables early detection of Native Budworm (Helicoverpa punctigera) in pulses and canola, allowing agronomists and growers to track pest development stages.
“It’s a game changer for pest monitoring which will compliment crop checking activity in the paddock, providing additional insight across a wider geography,”
– ADAMA Australia AgTech & Innovation Manager, Andrew Newall.
Further expansion of this network will occur in 2021 throughout South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales along with adding Cotton bollworm (Helicoverpa armigera). Three additional Trapview Pest Predictive Networks will also launch throughout 2020 and 2021 for monitoring Diamondback Moth, Codling Moth and Green Mirid.
